Mateship is something which has long been an emphasis at the CSU club - it helped Greenberg and his fellow students all the way to the preliminary final last season in the new second-tier Central West Rugby Union competition.

But this season under the guidance of experienced coach Dave Conyers - a man who has mentored CSU to premiership glory in the past - the students have significantly improved their discipline.

It has led to 11 wins from 12 rounds, with only defending premiers and current competition leaders Narromine having bettered them.

"It's been pretty incredible," Greenberg said.

"Discipline, Cons brings discipline. He's regimented, they way that he and Pete Koen train us is very old school as well.

"I guess he's helped the forwards more than anything, that's where his focus has been, on the forwards in terms of their rucking ability and their pick and drive.

"The forwards going well sets a good platform. I guess because we are younger and don't have that experience or age that those 35-year-old blokes from Blayney have or Mudgee or wherever, having that discipline in the forward pack helps a lot.

"I'd say we are just as good mates as we were last year, but on the field we're a bit tighter, more cohesive.

"I think we've always had that mateship, but I think now that transfers more across to being on the field because we've got that discipline."

After playing schoolboy rugby at Barker College, last season was Greenberg's first at CSU.

His speed and strong fend saw him become a valued member of the students' back line and this season he has continued to impress.

He scored in last weekend's hard-fought win over the Mudgee Wombats and with star centre Regan Hughes likely to be rested for this Saturday's clash with Dubbo Rhinos in Dubbo, Greenberg would love to cross the stripe again.

He was amongst the try scorers in round three when CSU fought their way to a close 28-24 win over the Rhinos.

CSU then crushed Rhinos 64-0 in round eight.

While Greenberg is anticipating things to be tougher than that on Saturday, he still has faith that the mateship and discipline can not only carry them to victory in Dubbo, but all the way to this season's decider.

"You never know what you're going to get with Rhinos, it could be a tough one for sure, especially as we're playing at Apex, their home ground," he said.

"But based on how we are playing I think we can make the grand final, I think we can do it. The only team we've lost to is Narromine, we're in second, so I think we're in with a pretty good chance."

Kick-off on Saturday is at 3.15pm at Dubbo's Apex Oval.
