THE Lions Club of Bathurst Macquarie needs bottletops to give children from war-torn countries a hand - literally.

The club is collecting tops with a HDPE (high density polyethylene) rating of 2 or 4, including milk bottle tops, that will be crushed and made into plastic ribbon for 3D printers that then make prosthetic limbs and other household items.
The limbs will be given to children and communities in war-torn and third world countries by the group Envision Hands.
"These devices allow young people to undertake basic tasks such as picking up a cup, holding a fork and clapping hands," Licia Thomas from the Lions Club of Bathurst Macquarie said.
"The long-term goal is to have communities, schools, etc, making the hands, thus being able to help more people."

The bottletops can be dropped at the Return and Earn collection centre at the Bathurst Community Op Shop on Lions Club Drive.
They can also be dropped at the Lions Van at the Riverside Markets, which are held on the first Saturday of each month at Berry Park, Kelso, or pick-up can be arranged (phone 0438 446 909).
"It's really taking off," Ms Thomas said. "Every time you mention it to somebody, they say 'that's so easy, I can do that'.
