I REFER to your article "Don't get into a fine mess" (July 2).
As a grazier, I would hope the same weed control measures apply to government-controlled lands - for example, railways, stock reserves and roadsides.
The Newbridge Stock Reserve is covered in blackberry bushes and, quite likely, a multitude of other invasive weeds. The railway line is in the same condition.
If you travel on the Newbridge Village Road, there is St John's wort all along the road.
While the Upper Macquarie County Council is getting tough with landholders, a difficult job is made harder when heavily infested government lands are your neighbour.
