The company announced on Thursday the imminent closure of three Big Ws in Chullora, Auburn and Fairfield in January 2020.
That followed an announcement in April that Big W would close up to 30 stores and two distribution centres (one in Western Australia and one in South Australia) over the next three years in response to poor trading conditions.
At the time, the Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange and Mudgee stores were included on a list of Big Ws slated for closure but neither Big W nor the Woolworths group has ever confirmed the veracity of that list.
In announcing the three Sydney closures this week, however, Big W managing director David Walker said the company would continue working with landlords across the country over coming months as part of its "network review".
Mr Walker said Big W does not take store closures lightly and said the company regrets the impact they will have on affected workers.
"Supporting our team remains our priority and we are committed to doing the right thing by them," he said.
"Over the next six months we will support our team and explore redeployment opportunities with team members who chose to continue their career at Big W or with other Woolworths Group brands in the months ahead."
