That is why he took I Am Capitan and Worldly Pleasure to Warwick Farm on Wednesday to contest the TAB Handicap (1,200m).
Unfortunately for Mirfin neither managed that win - I Am Capitan running a 2.5 lengths fourth with champion jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle, while Worldly Pleasure could only manage ninth.
While Mirfin rates I Am Capitan as the stable's main hope of having a Kosciuszko runner, he has a few in the wings waiting to step up.
"I Am Capitan is probably the stable's main prospect, I Am Magnificent ran really well first-up at Hawkesbury and is up there amongst them as well," he said.
"Press Box will be back and ready to go soon. There's a couple around the mark, they probably just need to take that next step.''
I Am Capitan, along with Press Box, are $51 Kosciuszko chances while Worldly Pleasure is a $101 prospect.
Among I Am Capitan's Highway form is some Kosciuszko flavour with a third to Noble Boy (second favourite) and a second to I Am A Cool Kid (fourth favourite).
The horse which took the honours against Mirfin's duo at Warwick Farm - Brad Widdup's Rare Episode - has been in good touch with three wins in his past five starts. I Am Capitan's fourth did have merit as he came from eighth at the 800m mark in his second start back from a 12-week spell.
