Telstra upgrade throws times out for customers

An upgrade currently underway at a Telstra site at a government-owned building in the CBD has thrown the times out for mobile phone customers by 30 minutes.

For some customers, the time difference began on Thursday night and by midday on Friday their mobile phones were still displaying a time that was 30 minutes behind what it should be.

A Telstra spokesman said the quirk in mobile phone time displays was unexpected.

"We're currently upgrading the station and something during the upgrade has caused times to go back half-an-hour," he said.

"It'll happen to you depending on where your phone is picking up its signal from."

The spokesman said the upgrade was expected to be finished later on Friday afternoon and then Telstra customers' mobiles phones should automatically change back to the correct time.

Some Western Advocate quickly worked out a solution for their phones, including reader Gav Pears whose iPhone is connected to the Telstra network.

"Glitch in system from yesterday, turn off set automatically in your clock settings. And set it to Sydney," he said.

"It defaults to Adelaide not Sydney for some reason."
