The Rugby Union club has requested a grant of $50,000 - one of 26 grants from across the Bathurst local government area - to help remove the old grandstand and old baseball dugout at Brooke Moore Oval, while installing two new spectator grandstands.
Rugby Union president Chris Albon said the grandstand was condemned seven years ago.
"It's an expensive job to demolish and to get ride of the grandstand and the dugout," he said.
"Hopefully we can get two stands; one for the home team and one for the away team.
"This ground is used for district games so it would be good to have a place where you can sit and watch the game."
Brooke Moore Oval was designed for baseball in the 1970s, with Rugby Union taking over the lease for the ground over a decade ago and since then, the club has installed a turf wicket, having a reputation as one of "the most liveliest wickets in town".
Albon explained the club has great plans for Brooke Moore Oval, but money is a restraint.
"We've got great plans for this ground but we need to have the money," he said.
"We want this to be the best venue in first grade cricket. That's our dream but this grandstand would be start and all dreams need money. We don't have much of it so we need as many grants as we can."
Albon explained that the Rugby Union club is tasked with preparing the wicket itself, a big commitment for a small club.
Bathurst councillor Jacqui Rudge said the state of Brooke Moore Oval stood out over other parks in town.
"Jess [Jennings] and I are focused on some of the forgotten parks in Bathurst and after having a look at this one, it stood out," she said.
"It's in such dire straits and we're not saying other parks aren't worthy but the neighbours and users should get on and support this project."
Rugby Union have enjoyed recent success, having won the 2017-18 Bathurst District Cricket Association first grade premiership.
