Coach David Conyers has identified the students' scrum as one of the key areas where the upcoming grand final against defending champions Narromine Gorillas could be decided.
The 32-29 win over the Wombats has given Conyers confidence that his forwards can match it with the Gorillas in their quest for revenge at Cale Oval.
"The last two times we've played Mudgee we've had to fight for the win. It really helps with development, I reckon, and makes you more determined to win," he said.
"It all came down to our scrum. Mudgee's scrum is just as good as Narromine's. There's a lot of seasoned, experienced big guys in there.
"Lachlan Buckton was away and we really missed him in the scrum. We'll get him back next week.
"All we need to do is get our fair share of ball in the scrum and keep them away from our line."

Conyers said CSU have managed to punch above their weight throughout the season in set pieces.
He's hopeful the team can cut back on their infringements in the scrum and can make life easier for themselves.
"We just haven't had any luck. We also got penalised really heavily in our scrum again," he said.

"It bewilders me sometimes why we're getting penalised when we are staying together.
"Because we're students maybe they think we're not knowledgeable in these things and we're getting 50-50s against us. That's where it's frustrating."
Narromine currently lead CSU 3-1 in this year's head-to-head.
