Recent research in Melbourne showed that rainwater tanks saved households there 137 litres of water per day. Not only that, but "a comparison of water consumption between households with rainwater tanks and those without" revealed that the "installation of rainwater tanks contributed to a reduction of 42.5 per cent in average household water consumption". This could happen now, many years before and many millions of dollars less than any raising of the dam wall, assuming that that might be seen as necessary.
