It's a long-standing tradition for the PCYC, as well as a fundraiser, and sees upwards of 40 people staying each night, either camping indoors or sleeping in campervans and caravans outdoors.

Manager Dave Hitchick said it was the perfect option for race fans who preferred not to sleep on the Mount.

He's already had reservations from all over Australia and even New Zealand.

"A lot of the people we get here are race fans but they've already done the staying on top of the Mount, staying awake all hours or writing themselves off," he said.

"This is another option for them."

Mr Hitchick said what makes the PCYC camping option so attractive is it's affordability and convenience, especially for families.

"It's a safe environment [and] they get breakfast and transport to and from the Mount," he said.

"We serve breakfast at 5.15am, and everyone is out the door and on the bus at 6am."

He said people also like the fact the PCYC is close to town and visitors can drive or walk into the CBD for food or entertainment.

The PCYC also has a TV set up showing highlights from the action on the Mount.

Campers can stay for the whole race or just one night. The cost, including breakfast and transport, is $90 per night for adults and $65 for kids. Money raised used for PCYC activities.
