Nicky Ly from Bathurst's Venue Cafe competed against 15 baristas from across the state in the competition last week.
Baristas were judged on their latte art, coffee-making skills and customer service abilities.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
A representative for Grinders Coffee suggested Nicky enter the competition after being impressed by her work at Venue.
"They said, 'wow, you handle the pressure really well, you should enter' and I thought, why not?" Nicky said.
Nicky says her experience as a manager gave her an advantage in the event which was held at Venue Cafe.
She says her second place effort came from attention to detail - not just in presentation but also the flavour of the coffee - and her customer service skills.
"It's our passion to serve customers and make a good coffee," Nicky said.
"The competition is about more than just latte art, it's about everything we do.
"If you have the latte art, sure that has wow factor, but if the coffee doesn't taste good, it doesn't matter."
Venue Cafe is in the Bathurst City Centre on Howick Street.
