WHEN it comes to snow and alpine conditions, the members of the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Bathurst unit do their best to keep people safe.
There has been quite a few instances of snow in recent weeks, seeing local SES crews carry out several vehicle recoveries.
On top of that, snow often leads to storm events that require SES intervention, like with fallen trees.
Duty officer Zeak Smith said that the SES doesn't have an official capacity when it comes to snow, but they do carry out patrols to check for people who need assistance.
"Quite a lot of people go out looking for snow in their town cars and they don't have the right equipment," he said, saying that some people get stuck.
He encouraged people to exercise caution if they do go looking for snow, saying they needed to ensure they had a suitable car and the right equipment for the conditions.
They also need to be prepared that it could be a long wait for help if they get stuck in treacherous conditions.
