Bathurst Regional Council has presented grants to a number of local organisations in order to assist their ongoing community projects.
The Section 356 donations presentation took place at the Bathurst Council Chambers yesterday, with 18 distinct organisations receiving a share in almost $40,000 worth of funding.
Bathurst mayor Graeme Hanger said organisations were selected on the basis of their commitment to enhancing the well-being of the community.
"A vast majority of community organisations applied for funding, and we're pleased to provide assistance to groups who continuously help make Bathurst a better place," Mr Hanger said.
"The funding will bolster support for a variety of cultural, sporting, historical and community programs."
Bathurst's cultural sector received a generous boost through a $5000 grant for the Bathurst City RSL Band Association and $2000 for the Bathurst Arts Council.
Bathurst City RSL Band conductor Wendy Jenkins, who is also a member the Arts Council, said the two grants will go a long way to support each organisation.
"The Arts Council grant will go towards staging the Youth Arts Awards, which is an annual ceremony acknowledging creative youth in Bathurst," Ms Jenkins said.
"In addition, the RSL Band grant will assist with ongoing travel costs for our concerts across the region."
Ms Jenkins said both organisations play a significant role in fostering talented creatives in the Bathurst community.
"We have a lot of talented people in this community, and we're thankful for the ongoing support," she said.
In the events sector, the Bathurst Spring Spectacular received $500 to go towards marketing and amenities.
Event co-ordinator Sarah Fairhurst said the Spring Spectacular allows the community to view some of the region's picturesque gardens.
"This year's event will include nine new gardens to the program, and we aim to donate most of the revenue from ticket sales towards local charities," Ms Fairhurst said.
"It also gives local gardeners ideas on how to be water-wise through the implementation of economic gardening strategies."
