St Philomena's School students got into the spirit of Children's Book Week yesterday by dressing up as their favourite literary characters. In keeping with the theme for this year's Book Week, Reading is My Secret Power, many students attended school dressed as popular comic book superheroes. READ ALSO: Scots All Saints College students spend 12 hours creating their book for Write a Book in a Day St Philomena's School principal Louise Davies said the week-long celebration inspires students to embrace the love of reading. "There's nothing better than submerging yourself in a good story," Ms Davies said. READ ALSO: St Philomena's School receives award for parent engagement program "It's inspiring to see the students and teachers dress up as their favourite characters and celebrate the wonders of literature." The students put together a parade for their parents and grandparents and a book fair took place in the school's library. READ ALSO: St Philomena's receives grant to complete outdoor learning centre "Our Year 6 students also organised a series of 'power games' in the afternoon for students and parents to participate in," Ms Davies said. "The activities took inspiration from some of the students' favourite books, and kept everyone entertained."
