The event, scheduled for Saturday, September 21, will showcase more than 30 beers from nine craft breweries, including Melbourne's Mountain Goat Beer, Newtown's Young Henrys and Lucknow-based Two Heads Brewing.

Church Bar manager Chris White said the event will be the venue's first large-scale showcase of craft beer.

"We've had a few smaller events in the past, but this is the first time we've incorporated multiple breweries in the one showcase," Mr White said.

"There will also be live music throughout the day, as well as some creative food items on the menu."

The venue is running the event in conjunction with Bucket Boys, a Sydney-based franchise specialising in craft beer production and sales.

Mr White said the event will provide a fascinating insight into the burgeoning craft beer trade.

"I feel the days of being either a Tooheys New or a Victoria Bitter fan are gone, as people are wanting to try new things," he said.

"There's so many craft breweries pushing the envelope in their approach to beer production through the incorporation of traditional and modern brewing techniques."

Mr White said the rise of craft brewing has helped reinvent the beer market through a strong focus on independent production.

"I've been in the industry for 20 years, and I'm loving the fact that beer has found new life again," he said.

"Every brewery has their own unique story to tell and while beer production is a competitive industry, most of the brewers are friends with each other."

According to a recent economic analysis conducted for the Brewers Association of Australia, 84 per cent of beer sold nation-wide is manufactured by Australian breweries.

The analysis also found domestic production supports almost 103,000 full-time jobs and generates $16.5 billion in economic activity each year.

Last year, the Church Bar ran an in-house tasting event for Young Henrys, and Mr White is hoping to help grow the appeal of craft beer in the Bathurst region.

"It's great to see a growing number of Bathurst venues embracing craft beer, and we like to think our venue has pioneered the promotion of independent brewers locally," he said.

"We're hoping to encourage people across the wider Central West to try something a little different."

The event will incorporate the talents of local musicians Andy Nelson, Chloe Swannell and some 'to be announced' special guests.
