But you don't have to look very far to see some drivers who will be title contenders.
Several Bathurst drivers will be making a tilt at the championships - the first to be held on the Mount since 2012 - and among them is Stuart Inwood.
While Inwood is undecided on what car he'll be driving on the November 1-3 event, you can bank on the experienced competitor featuring among the front runners for whatever category he takes on.
His leading choice for a drive on Mount Panorama will be his Nissan Skyline, which was on display at Rydges Hotel during Thursday's event launch.
Inwood said at the launch he is excited to see the nation's leading hillclimb event arrive on his doorstep.
"It's great having it here. It's the next step up from state so the competition is very fierce," he said.
"The best thing about hillclimb is the people. If very different to circuit racing. You always get a group of friends and everybody works together."
Much of Inwood's success in recent years has come from combined sedans racing but he's had a memorable career in hillclimb events.
"I've been doing this for quite a while now. I've got several Aussie titles and still have course records all over the state," he said.
"I had a bit of time out from this since we've been busy with circuit racing so it's time to have another plug.
"I've probably been to at least half a dozen national hillclimbs ... and I've taken home a number one trophy from every one of them."
Practice for the Australian Hillclimb Championships will be held on the Friday with competition to follow over Saturday and Sunday.
