The school successfully secured a $111,550 grant through the state government's My Community Project scheme, and intends to put the funding towards an improved front area for staff, students and parents.

Eglinton Public School principal Vicki O'Rourke said the funding will provide a more comfortable environment at the front of the school.

"The entry point will undergo major earthworks for the installation of new drainage, upgraded play equipment and a concrete path connecting the main gate to the school hall," Ms O'Rourke said.

"We are also planning to widen the main gate area to ease access for parents and construct a garden featuring a host of native plants."

Ms O'Rourke said the funding will also go towards a rejuvenated recreation area for kindergarten students.

"We're planning to install new soft-fall under the play equipment and a shade structure over the top," she said.

"It gets very hot during summer and as the kindergarten students are only five and six years old, we can't leave them exposed to the harsh sun."

Ms O'Rourke said the school is thankful for all the support received to secure the funding.

"We've put our quotes in for the works already and by this time next year, we hope to have a revitalised entry to the school," she said.

"Over 200 parents wait for their children in the entry area each day, and we want to provide a nice place for them to converse."

Eglinton Public School was one of three Bathurst organisations to secure a My Community Project grant from 26 applications.
