That's why Saturday's Get Ready Weekend will provide the perfect opportunity for families to workout what to do with bushfires threaten properties, as the bushfire season start date was brought forward from October 1 to September 1 because of the drought.

Hosted by the Bathurst Rural Fire Brigade at the Adventure Playground, firefighters will be on hand to talk about simple things property owners can do to reduce the risk of fire.

"Clearing debris, not stacking fire wood near the house and keeping the lawn mowed low can all help prevent bush fires spreading," brigade deputy captain Shane Thomas said.

"We'll been handing out bushfire plans to people on the day, as we want to get the message out to property owners to be prepared during the bushfire season.

"Preparing for bushfires is easier than people may think. A first step can be as simple as talking to your family about what they will do if a bush fire was to start near their property."

Children will be able to climb aboard a fire truck on Saturday and anyone will also be able to sign up to join the Rural Fire Service, alongside another 70,000 volunteers across NSW.

Local police, Fire and Rescue and the State Emergency Service will all be there on the day to showcase their response appliances, equipment and members.

There will be a sausage sizzle held by the Scouts group, as well as coffee, sweets and a jumping castle.

The day will run from 10am to 3pm.
