AN 11-year-old boy is one of two juveniles charged with assault after an elderly man was allegedly attacked in a Bathurst park last week.

Police say a 74-year-old man was walking through a park on Stanley Street about 10.50am last Thursday when he was approached by two boys, aged 11 and 16, who demanded he fight them.
The man attempted to walk away when it is alleged the older boy swung a stick at him before throwing it at the man, causing cuts to his arms.
Police were told a witness intervened and the juveniles ran from the scene.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District were notified of the incident and began their inquiries into the alleged assault.
Soon after, at about 2.15pm last Thursday, police arrested a 16-year-old in relation to the alleged assault.
The teenager was taken into custody by police at a shopping centre in Bathurst following a short pursuit on foot.
The younger boy was arrested soon after in the rear yard of a business on Howick Street, again following a foot pursuit.

The juveniles were taken to Bathurst police station and charged in relation to the alleged attack on the 74-year-old.
The 11-year-old was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and larceny.
The older boy was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and larceny.
Both boys were granted conditional bail to appear before a children's court in Bathurst.
