Organised by Jeremy Brown, around 60 people attended the call to action, urging politicians to choose life and reconsider the pending bill.

Of particular concern to the protesters was the speed of which the bill went through.

Mr Brown said for such a sensitive topic "literally life and death" there was "a significant lack of checks and balances."

The rally was to coincide with a National Party meeting being held inside the club, however, the meeting did not go ahead.

Undeterred, the protesters instead penned an open letter to, Local Member Paul Toole, which was delivered to his Howick Street office after the rally.

The letter, which late yesterday was unanswered, raised concerns including the specific details of the bill, which Mr Brown feels the public were not made aware of.

The call to action was organised for Bathurst earlier in the week, with participants asked to join the Rally for Babies.

The call to action was advertised in the weekend bulletin of the Cathedral Parish of St Michael and St John, asking people "to be a voice for the unborn."

Participants were asked to bring their own pro-life placards to the event, which are "respectful, creative and colourful."

Organisers of the event said every baby was precious.

"Your voice as the constituents of Bathurst has the power to save them."

Mr Brown said he had been inundated with calls of support since organising the rally.

He said right to life was something he was passionate about, and felt the recent abortion bill had 'flown under the radar' and people needed to speak up.

He said the aim of the rally was to let politicians know this was an issue "that matters."

A smaller group of pro-choice advocates also turned up to the rally, and Mr Brown said he would be happy to meet with them to formally discuss the issue , in a public debate which is properly mediated, with any donations from the event to fund supporting women impacted by domestic violence.
