And there's plenty on the line for both teams come game day, with the winner being able to claim the unofficial tag of best rugby league side in the Western region.
Panthers qualified for the one-off match by claiming the Group 10 premier league premiership, downing Mudgee Dragons 9-8 last Sunday, while the Cowboys overcome Dubbo CYMS 19-10 on September 8 in the Group 11 decider.
While the tournament is relatively new, Panthers president Dennis Comerford admitted winning it would "mean a lot to the club"
"We were lucky enough to play in it last year when Group 10 hosted it at Carrington Park," he said.
"Unfortunately we couldn't put a full team on the paddock and the result showed that. This year, we're close to a full team."
Comerford confirmed that the Panthers will be without Willie Wright, Louis Murphy and Kevin Murray for Sunday's match, with all three having commitments to an Indigenous knockout tournament in Walgett.
The Panthers president also said Josh Small is out of the match because of an injury from the grand final, with James Higgins and Josh Rivett withdrawing on Thursday night.
That means youngsters Mackenzie Atkins, Brad Fearnley and Noah Griffiths will all get another chance to star, with Callum Young and Andrew Bennett also slotting into the side.
"So we're giving our under 18s an opportunity and some of our reserve players as well," Comerford said.
"Hopefully we can come away from a good result."
And while many of the Panthers boys have been busy celebrating their grand final win on Sunday, Comerford is confident that the boys will be ready for Wellington this weekend.
He's also admitted he's unfamiliar with the Cowboys side.
"Being in different competitions, we don't get to come against them so we don't know what their quality is like but on Sunday, though, we'll find out," he said.
Kick-off between Panthers and Wellington is at 2.30pm.
