What a confusing piece of writing layered in heaps of backhanded compliments.
It seems to me the editorial basically tells everyone that, yes, Bobby is the new mayor, but don't go expecting very much from him.
Personally, I think that was very unfair and perhaps instead of writing him off before he has had a chance to settle in and learn how to be a mayor, we should be instead supporting him and applauding him for having a go.

People do have to start somewhere. No-one is perfect but that doesn't mean they cannot learn and grow as a person.
For what it is worth, I send my sincere congratulations to Bobby on his new position and I wish both him and Ian North the very best as mayor and deputy mayor.
Thank you for stepping up and having a go, Bobby.
I think that you will do alright.
