Pink Up Bathurst hopes to raise at least $20,000 for breast cancer nurses and research.
A small group of local women came up with the plan to get involved with the Pink Up Your Town movement launched by the McGrath Foundation and Councillor Jacqui Rudge says it was an obvious decision to get behind this great cause.
"I thought it was a fantastic idea," she said. "Council needs to be behind a great initiative and project such as this and ask the community to at least give a gold coin donation so that we can reach that $20,000 donation target."

Cr Rudge gave an impassioned speech at the Pink Up Bathurst launch at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre on Tuesday, sharing her own battle with breast cancer in 2006 as a point of inspiration.
"Cancer affects us in many ways. My journey with breast cancer in 2006 saw me leave my family for seven weeks for treatment in Sydney," she said.
"We are moving towards change and cures, however, at this time we all need to support each other through the journey."
Breast cancer is on the rise in Australia. Recent statistics show that one-in-seven women will be diagnosed with the disease in their life and eight women die every day in Australia from breast cancer.
With breast cancer remaining one of Australia's most prominent health issues, the need for more specialised breast care nurses is growing and Cr Rudge hopes that the Pink Up Bathurst initiative can help more patients get the care they need.
"As a breast cancer survivor I feel very strongly about this and I feel very strongly about getting more breast care nurses, who weren't around when I had breast cancer... I understand the very important role they play in helping someone deal with this journey," Cr Rudge said.
"Let's Pink up Bathurst, let's show what we can do and lets get to that goal of $20,000 ... as the old saying goes, it takes a village."
There are many events to get involved in, including The Greens on William's Boobs and Bowls event at noon on Saturday - an event for all people to dress in pink and enjoy an afternoon of barefoot bowls.
