The decision to move was made two years ago due to light from Bathurst encroaching on the facility.
Observatory manager Ray Pickard says the support for the project has been fantastic so far.
"We have been amazed by the community support for relocation of the observatory to our new site," he said.
"We have been grateful for some offers from the public and it was the community that suggested crowd-funding some of the elements we are planning."
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
The observatory has previously displayed thee meteorites in an exhibit at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, which proved to be quite popular.
The observatory hopes to bring them back to the facility in the hopes of putting Bathurst on the map for astronomy in the Central West.
The observatory is looking for any donations they can get on their 'Ready Fund Go' page and are hoping to land a major sponsor.
"Every dollar that goes towards our new museum allows us to divert funds into making the observatory and our research telescope area even better than planned," Mr Pickard said.
The observatory believes the meteorite museum would be a welcome addition to complement other local exhibits.
