That is certainly what the defending Supercars champion and current series leader is hoping for at Mount Panorama when he contests the Bathurst 1000.
The DJR Team Penske driver grew up watching others battle it out on the famous circuit and now loves doing it himself. From seven attempts thus far, his best 1000 result was a third placing last year.
"I've heard from a number of people who've won it they've said that when you win Bathurst it changes your life, I'm sure it will," McLaughlin said.
"I've lived and breathed Bathurst since I was a little kid, it's all I've really watched, what I learned about Supercars growing up was the Bathurst 1000.
"Look, if I could add my name to that trophy it would be fantastic, but I think there are going to be a few others as well that want to do that same thing."
The man who will share McLaughlin's seat as he pushes for his maiden Peter Brock Trophy win is Frenchman Alex Premat. It will be their fifth tilt together.
"He does cop a lot of flack for not being here and all that sort of stuff but he's a great guy. I've got a lot of trust in him and have driven with him for a long, long time," McLaughlin said.
"It's awesome to have someone like that in your corner who is experience, especially for endurance race. To be experienced in endurance racing and be on pace basically straight away - the test day he jumped straight in and the first couple of laps he was within a couple of 10ths of me - that's pretty good going.
"Bathurst is a different beast, the track takes a lot to get used to and he might take a bit of time to get up to pace there, but luckily we have five or six hours practice so we'll be fine. I think we're in good stead."
