Watterson was making her debut in the competition for NSW Pride, while Lee was playing in her second match of 2019 for Canberra Chill.
Either player were unable to snatch a goal, rather it was the Evans sisters who made the difference in the match, with Naomi and Mikayla striking gold in the first and second quarter respectively to secure a 2-1 win for Chill on home turf.
Canberra controlled the first half as Naomi Evans gave the Chill an early lead with a ninth minute goal, assisted by teammate Sophie Gaughan who struck the ball straight through the Pride's defence as Evans dived and flicked it past Pride goalkeeper Jocelyn Bartram.
Canberra continued to ride the momentum into the second quarter as international recruits Beckie Middleton and Yui Ishibashi made two attempts in the opening minutes.
Middleton then crossed the ball into the attacking circle for Mikayla Evans, who completed the play with a dive and scored in the 29th minute.
"It felt pretty good actually, it was a decent goal - a freaky goal - because I dived," Evans said.
"Everyone is having a joke about only the sisters scoring, so that's pretty cool."
Canberra opened the second half with four solid shots but failed to pass Bartram as the match's momentum began to shift.
The see-sawing second half saw Canberra struggle to convert their defensive efforts with points, while NSW attempted to narrow down the margin.
The Pride had a chance to equal the scoreline when Morgan Blamey scored in the final seconds of the third quarter, but the 21-year-old didn't score the conversion as Canberra goalkeeper Sakiyo Asano made a match-deciding save to secure the win for the Chill.
In round three action, Lee's Chill will play the Perth Thundersticks on Saturday at the Perth Hockey Stadium, while Watterson's Pride will take on the Tassie Tigers at the Sydney Olympic Park on the same day.
