I fully agree with the comments made about the Race Week street parade.
I also agree that the trucks are getting boring and that the community needs to get behind this parade and actively participate as was the case many years ago.
Back in the good ol' days, I remember there were marching bands and dance groups watched by thousands lining the streets.

Many floats were entered by local businesses and schools, including church groups, the Scouts and Girl Guides.
The parade was held on a Saturday afternoon before the big race on Sunday during the October long weekend.
The street party used to start early Saturday morning and continue right through until around 9pm or 10pm.
Nowadays it finishes at 4pm and unless one is into pubs and drinking, there's not much else for the families to do except wander the streets like lost sheep.
I feel that the street party or fair could be extended until at least 9pm with a fireworks display.
When I think about it, the current off-track events don't have any activities planned for families after 4pm.
I remember a few years ago they set up a temporary drive-in at Learmonth Park showing kids' movies, so maybe that's an option to be included in the list of events for next year's off-track events and activities.
