The Moffat name became synonymous with racing thanks to the success of four-time Great Race winner, Allan Moffat, and in more modern times the name has continued to be seen on the timesheets with his son James.
However, the young Moffat says it wasn't a career he was given much encouragement to pursue. Actually, it was quite the opposite.
"He tried to hand me a golf club or a tennis racquet or anything but a steering wheel with every opportunity he had," he said.
"Growing up, as far back as I can remember, racing cars was all I wanted to do.
"I guess it's natural for people to think that I was pushed into the sport, but I reckon if you ask Dad it would have been the last thing he wanted me to do."
Moffat was a full-time driver in the Supercars Championship from 2011 to 2017, in that time driving for Dick Johnson Racing, Nissan Motorsport and finally Garry Rogers Motorsport.
He took on co-driving duties at Tickford Racing in 2018, finishing fourth in the Bathurst 1000 with Chaz Mostert.
The partnership has continued into 2019, with the pair set to start Sunday's race from a competitive spot on the grid.
"I feel very lucky to be living out my dream. I'm in a very fortunate position where I get to come and compete in the biggest race of the year," Moffat said on Saturday.
His starting position will be determined in Saturday afternoon's top 10 shootout after Mostert qualified provisional second for the race.
