Greens MP Adam Bandt attempted to bring on such a vote in federal parliament's lower house on Tuesday, supported by Labor's climate spokesman Mark Butler.
But Emissions Reduction Minister Angus Taylor was quick to shrug the proposition off, saying it was all symbolism and not practical.
