Reclaim the Night is held annually on the last Friday of the Month in October and is a community partnership event to raise awareness of safety in particular for women in the Bathurst community.
The event is being facilitated by the BFVCAN which includes representatives from Charles Sturt University, TAFE NSW, NSW Police, Community Corrections, The Neighbourhood Centre, Central West Women's Health Centre, Wattle Tree House, Relationships Australia, and the Elizabeth Evatt Legal Centre.
The march aims to draw together people with different backgrounds and experiences to raise awareness of the right that all people have to feel safe in their community.
The event will provide a public platform for women and the men who support them to take a stand against sexual violence.
It is a priority of the Family Violence Community Action Group to continue to hold this event each year to raise awareness that sexual assault is a prevalent issue in the community.
Sexual Assault affects one in three girls before the age of 18 and one in six women will be assaulted in a lifetime.
Organisers of the event said is vitally important that we find a way to help the community talk about it.
"It is anticipated the by bringing lots of people together and raising awareness of the issue of violence in our community, we will help to prevent future violence," Karen Boyde, Manager of the Central West Women's Health Centre said.
Reclaim the Night will commence at 5:30pm at Machattie Park and will include a march around the perimeter, followed by a keynote address from Jenny Roberts Deputy Vice Chancellor CSU, music performance by Gabbi Bolt, and a BBQ by the Bathurst Lions Club.
