The Bathurst 1000 race meeting wrapped up on Sunday, after bringing with it thousands of visitors who spent money on accommodation, fuel, food and more.
Mayor Bobby Bourke said, based on previous years, it would be safe to say that the event has brought in more than $20 million to Bathurst.
Other parts of the Central West also get a boost in their tourism dollar.
That kind of money makes a big difference to local businesses.
"You take the influx of people over the this weekend, businesses could have a couple of bad weeks and still keep going," Cr Bourke said.
He said the Bathurst 1000 was just one event that provided a boost to businesses.
Council supports local businesses by continuing to add new and improve upon events, like the Bathurst Winter Festival, the Bathurst Cycling Classic and a fifth major motor sport event, which is coming to Mount Panorama in 2020.
"If we as a council keep providing these attractions, businesses can keep thriving in Bathurst," Cr Bourke said.
He added that he was proud to have been a councillor over the last five years, where he was able to be part of bringing big things to Bathurst.
