However, Mr Gowland of Brent Gowland Tipper and Water Tank Hire said that's not always the case.
He said he's been busy of late but even during dry times, tanks have had water.
"Last Christmas it was really dry but there were a few storms and that was enough to make a difference," he said.
"You can have a lot of busy months, but a bit of rain can be enough for people to last for ages."
Mr Gowland explained that his tanker can hold 13,000 litres and while people's tanks can vary in size, it's enough on average to fill half a talk on some rural properties in the Bathurst region.
He fills up his take on Hereford Street where Bathurst Regional Council has three dedicated water filling stations for the dispensing of drinking water.
People wishing to access water from the station have to visit council's cashiers during business hours to obtain a water card and prepay for water that will be credited to the water card.
