Hundreds of year 12 students across Bathurst have overcome the first hurdle of the 2019 Higher School Certificate (HSC), completing the first English paper on Thursday morning.
English, whether it's Studies, Standard or Advanced, is the only HSC subject that is compulsory for students in NSW and requires two papers - one on Thursday and the second on Friday.
For most students, there was a feeling of relief when they stepped out of their exam rooms on Thursday, after completing their first exam.
MacKillop College students shared their thoughts on their first English paper.
"It was easier than I thought," Madison Pincott said.
"I'm actually confident going into Friday's exam," Olivia Johnston said, however, some of her classmates were shocked by that statement.
"I just hope our hard work pays off."
There's still just over three weeks of the HSC, with the last exams to be held on Monday, November 11.
Students across six Bathurst schools are currently undertaking their HSC exams - Bathurst High, Kelso High, St Stanislaus' College, Scots All Saints College, MacKillop College and Skillset Senior College.
The second paper of the English exam is expected to run from 9.25am to 11.30am on Friday morning.
