It is the only Bathurst-based restaurant to receive an entry in the 2020 guide, which was released earlier this month, and just one of seven in the Central West region.

Dogwood BX owner Evan Stanley said the entry caps off the hard work of his staff.

"It's amazing to be seen worthy to be in the guide," he said.

"It's one of, if not the ultimate food guide. People put a lot stock to be in it.

"To be recognised is massive, especially being a small family business in a regional NSW town."

Dogwood BX - which is an American-styled diner, opening in 2017 - scored a mark of 14 out of 20, the minimum score an eatery must receive to be included in the Good Food Guide.

"We've got a casual atmosphere, we're fun and it's like a party, so we were never expecting 20 out of 20," he said.

"I didn't set up Dogwood to get in this guide, rather I wanted it to be the best it can be, with the best food, drink and best atmosphere.

"The goal is seeing people leave stoked and saying 'thanks for a great time'."

The only other eatery in the Bathurst region that got an entry into the Good Food Guide was the Painted Horse Cafe in Sofala, which received a score of 14 out of 20.

The Painted Horse Cafe only opened in January, 2018, but an entry in the 2020 edition of the guide marks a second-consecutive mention.

The other Central West entrants were Pipeclay Pumphouse (Mudgee, 14 out of 20), Lolli Redini (Orange, 15), Charred Kitchen and Bar (Orange, 14.5), Racine (Nashdale, 14.5) and Tonic (Millthorpe, 14.5).

Over 700 venues were reviewed before judges selected the best 500 venues or so for this year's Good Food Guide.

The first guide was published in 1980 as The Age Good Food Guide, with the 2020 edition marking the 40^th anniversary of the guide.
