Jake Hansen, from Orange Snake Service, said there's several ways home owners can help prevent snakes taking up residents on their property.

"Basically, you want to limit the availability of food and shelter. If they don't have either of those things, they'll be less inclined to hang around," he said.

"One of the big things is having rodents like mice and rats. If you've got a vermin problem, it's very likely you'll end up with particularly brown and tiger snakes.

"Shelter can be debris on the ground, like building material, wood piles and it can be less obvious things, like cracks, gaps or cavities that appear underneath people's concrete slabs."

Mr Hansen said it depends on the situation, person and location, when it comes to dealing with a snake.

"If you live on the edge of town, there's always going to be snakes around," he said.

"Just because you have a snake come by, doesn't mean you have to panic.

"If you've got dogs or cats that don't know to leave snakes alone, you'd want to get them inside, as well as kids who are oblivious to the dangers of snakes."
