The other two games are firmly in the balance with, arguably, Rugby Union and Centrals probably in the box seat, with a massive second day's play coming up next weekend.

Here's how the first day of the 2019-20 summer's second round played out.

KINROSS (5-202) lead CITY COLTS (182) by 20 runs

A stunning twist to the second round's first day that has the potential to blow the title race wide open if Kinross can consolidate on day two, and hang on to the first innings points they secured on Saturday's first day at Bathurst's Loco Oval.

The highly-touted City Colts side were smarting from an upset defeat at the hands of Centennials Bulls in round one and, led by a James Larkin ton, Kinross rubbed salt into the wound by securing a first innings win inside 80 overs.

Once again the powerful City Colts top order failed to make a serious impression and they were skittled for 182 in just 37 overs. Granted, although a meagre total, anything close to 200 has traditionally been good enough against the students.

Not now Larkin is controlling things from first drop though, the former Sydney University skipper blasted 120 from just 115 balls to inspire his side to a four-wicket, first-innings win.

He was the last wicket to fall on Saturday's opening day after adding 135 for the fifth wicket with Mac Webster, who was stoic in finishing the day unbeaten on 33 from 71 balls.

Webster and George Cumming (5 not out) will resume next weekend with Kinross sitting pretty at 5-202, boasting a 20-run lead and a big chance to take a huge scalp in picking up their first win of the summer.

CAVALIERS (2-156) trail BATHURST CITY REDBACKS (182) by 26 runs

Cavaliers are inches away from sealing first-innings points after Mitch Black and Gus Cumming mesmerised Redbacks' middle and lower order, and skipper Matt Corben then backed up their efforts with the bat.

With skipper Joey Coughlan (77) and Mark Day (43) leading the charge Bathurst City controlled the early proceedings and marched to 1-138, before Black and Cumming sparked a monumental collapse with their finger-spin.

Black (5-57) and Cumming (4-38) combined to take Bathurst City's last nine wickets for 44 runs at Wade Park and resign the Redbacks to a meagre 182, a far cry from the 300-plus total they were looking at before the duo struck.

Hugh Middleton (39) made a good start from the top for Cavaliers and combined well with Corben in an 83-run, second-wicket stand after Kaleb Cook (2) was dismissed with the score at just 12.

Corben, who finished the day not out on 71, was then joined by vice-captain Bailey Ferguson (38 not out) and the pair proceeded to combine in an unbeaten partnership of 61, pushing Cavaliers into the box seat with just 27 to get to win.

ORANGE CITY (8-299) lead ST PAT'S OLD BOYS by 299 runs

For a side that, in the past, has had trouble consistently posting big scores Orange City have started the 2019-20 summer with a bang, backing up their round total of 4-347 declared with another formidable first-innings tally at Riawena Oval.

After coming to the crease at 4-62 with his side in a precarious position, 17-year-old gloveman Lachie Coyte consolidated magnificently and resurrected the innings with a composed 109 from 163 balls, belting 21 boundaries on the way.

He combined well with skipper Ed Morrish (40) to add 107 for the fifth wicket and another 72 with Shaun Churchill (38) before he was trapped in front by tweaker Connor Slattery, who was the pick of the Saints' bowlers with 3-82.

Andrew Gordon continued Coyte's work though and finished the day unbeaten on 42, with Brett Causer also chipping in a valuable 19 to help push the Warriors to almost 300.

Morrish hasn't yet signalled his intention but with Riawena playing low, slow and flat, he's expected to declare before the start of play and give his side at least 80 overs to skittle the reigning Bathurst champions.

CENTRALS (2-64) trail CENTENNIALS BULLS (178) by 116 runs

With no genuinely set batters and prolific run-scorer Nick Dunlop (45) back in the sheds, this game remains firmly in the balance although it would appear Centrals do enjoy a slight advantage at stumps on day one.

Chasing Centennials' 178, Dunlop fired early after Rowan Dray was removed without scoring and, with help from Logan Buckley (15 not out) helped the red and blacks to 2-64 at stumps, with 117 left to get on day two to score their first victory of the summer.

Zac Reimer is the other unbeaten bat, on zero, after entering the fray as a nightwatchman as stumps loomed on day one.

Centrals' encouraging start came after skipper Daryl Kennewell tore through Centennials' top order to pick up four wickets, and help restrict the Bulls to 178 from the first 59 overs of the day.

Matt Ripps and Ed Dodds both took two wickets apeice as well, with brothers Blake and Kyle Aubin once again the best of the Centennials bats, although they couldn't go on with their respective starts of 50 and 29.

Perhaps key for Centrals is that round-one top-scorer Fletcher Rose returns for the second day but won't be able to bat, he was named to replace the already-dismissed Dunlop - unless of course Kennewell made an 11^th hour change to the team sheet.

RUGBY UNION (8-323) lead CYMS by 323 runs

A 142-run opening stand from the Qureshi brothers, Jameel and Imran, and a couple of handy middle-order contributions pushed the Bulldogs to an imposing day one total, helping them bounce back from their round-one defeat.

Imran Qureshi contributed 58 of those before being run out, while the elder brother went on to make 91 before being caught off the bowling of Angus Wilson (1-45).

When the latter was dismissed Rugby Union were still in a position of strength at 4-185, which Sam Macpherson (44) and Jock Thackery (44 not out) built on to push their side beyond 300.

Ryan Smiles (17 not out) will resume at the crease with Thackery next weekend at Morse Park 1, with Luke D'Elboux continuing his wicket-taking form for CYMS.

He took five wickets across CYMS' round-one win over Kinross and backed that up by snaring his first bagful of the season on Saturday afternoon, picking up 5-50 from his 19 overs.
