Over 15 millimetres of rain fell on Sunday afternoon, a welcomed sight for most in the region, however, Bathurst might've been hoping it would have held off until the end of play.

Bathurst posted a total of 7-263, with Mark Day's impressive hit of 86 runs the highest total of the match.

Day's hit on Sunday is more than the total amount of runs he's scored in the opening two rounds of play in the Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket for Bathurst City from two innings (40 against Rugby Union in round one and 43 against Cavaliers in round two).

It's the highest total he's achieved at both a senior and junior level representing Bathurst.

"I'm pretty sure looking back at even the juniors I've hit a few 50s for them, but not that high," he said.

"It's always pretty good to get runs for your town."

While he said it was disappointing that the weather denied Bathurst a chance to win, the rain was a welcome sight for many around the region.

"The silver lining is the rain but I think we were in the box seat [to get the win]," he said.

"Mudgee, I think they were top heavy with the bat. A couple more wickets, you don't know what could've happened. I would've liked to think that we would've went on with the job.

Things weren't looking great earlier on, with Bathurst at 2-19 after openers Andrew Brown (two runs) and Joey Coughlan (14 runs) were both dismissed.

But Rory Daburger and Mark Day came in at three and four respectively and the two Redbacks teammates put on a 131-run stand to have Bathurst at 3-150 by the time Day was dismissed.

Daburger fell four runs later, but Bathurst senior representative debutants Oliver Simpson and Ben Cant went for a 60-run stand under the latter was dismissed with Bathurst at 5-214.

Brothers Kyle and Blake Aubin also had a chance together, with Kyle caught out for just three on his debut and Blake hitting 14.

Bathurst would finish its 50 overs at 7-263 and while Mudgee did get a chance to bat - finishing at 1-20 - it wasn't long before the rains began to fall and the match was washed out and called a draw.

Day said he was impressed by some of the juniors making their debuts, especially Cant.

"He batted unreal Benny. He's a really good, young player," he said.

"Young Rory Daburger also impressed at three. I think he and I put on about 130. I've played a lot of cricket with Rory and think that's the longest I've ever batted with him. I think he stood up and showed how well he can bat.

"Oliver Simpson whacked it too. He's worked extremely hard, so it's good to see him get the results now."

Bathurst's round two Rod Hartas Trophy match will be against Blue Mountains on Sunday, December 8, at the Peter Caroll Field in Leura.
