It is colloquially known as 'the race that stops a nation,' and the Bathurst RSL Club is preparing for another stellar turnout for Melbourne Cup this year.

The Bathurst RSL is one of several local establishments set to cater for race fans throughout the day and from 8am, the club will have a range of entertainment options available for patrons.
"There will be lots of giveaways and best dressed prizes on offer, as well as bistro specials throughout the day," Bathurst RSL marketing manager Janneke Van Der Sterren said.
"We will also have musician Peter Horan performing from 12pm, and he's been a fixture of our Melbourne Cup festivities for many years."
Ms Van Der Sterren said the Melbourne Cup is a popular day on the club's calendar, with the bar and bistro areas regularly packed to capacity.
"We have patrons who attend the club for the whole day as well as people who stop by for the main event at 3pm," she said.
Ms Van Der Sterren said the event provides a fantastic opportunity for patrons to dress up and enjoy the biggest day on Australia's racing calendar.
"There's not many occasions throughout the year that allow you to turn up in your best outfit and enjoy a glass of champagne with friends during a weekday," she said.
