Ekert has been selected to represent Western Zone in the Cricket Country Championships at Goulburn and Queanbeyan on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, having previously represented both Queensland Country and NSW Country at the Hockey Country Championships.
The City Colts regular has been selected in the team alongside teammates Matt Stephen and Henry Shoemark, with brothers Jameel and Imran Qureshi, Adam Ryan, Connor Slattery and Mitch Taylor the only other Bathurst first graders selected for the tournament.
Ekert said he's "stoked" to be selected in the team.
"Not bad for a 35-year-old, really," he said on being selected.
"Usually I'm more about playing cricket on Saturday and having a beer with my mates basically but I was asked to play for the Bathurst district team last year and it's taken off from there."
He said he's excited to play alongside his fellow teammates.
"It's always good to play representative honours with some of your club teammates but we've got players from all across the Western Zone that I know of," he said.
"It should be pretty exciting. I like playing with players like Jameel and Imran, so I'm looking forward to it."
Ekert provided handy knocks for Bathurst in their opening two wins of the Western Zone Premier League campaign, with 44 and 49 against Orange and Dubbo respectively.
Now he's confident that his Western Zone can get the job done at the Country Championships.
"I'm always 100 per cent confident sporting wise with what I do with my teams," he said.
"I'm going into an unknown. I don't know any [of the opposition] and they don't know me but if we play to our potential and with the guys in the team, I'm sure we can go a long way and I'm sure that we will."
The other non-Bathurst players selected in the Western Zone squad includes Dubbo's Jacob Hill and Matt Skinner, Parkes pair Brent Tucker and Myles Smith plus James Larkin and Ed Morrish from Orange.
Ryan and Hill were late call-ups to the squad after Dubbo duo Marty Jeffrey and Brock Larance were declared unavailable.
Western Zone will begin its Country Championships bid on November 8 against Greater Illawarra before meeting ACT Southern Districts (November 9) and Riverina (November 10).
Western Zone's matches against Greater Illawarra and Riverina will be played at Prell Oval in Goulburn, with the match against ACT Southern Districts to be held at Seiffert Oval, a little further south at Queanbeyan.
The winner of the group will progress to the final against Newcastle on Sunday, November 17, at an undecided location.
