Bathurst Regional Council has invested $200,000 of its own money to repair and restore the historic cottage, with work commencing in July of this year.
Mayor Bobby Bourke said the work aims to "highlight the historic designs and architecture" of the cottage.
"The work is expected to be completed by mid to late November, depending on weather," he said.

The cottage has been a subtle feature of Machattie Park for many years, having been built circa 1890.
The cottage was a gift from the Bathurst Progress Association and features two bedrooms, a parlour, a living room, an office and five fireplaces.
The park's first head gardener, Alfred Patterson, spent 17 years in the cottage.
During that time, he directly supervised the development of Lake Spencer, the 1891 Grand Fountain, and the 1897 watering system, as well as the original plantings, paths and walls.
Cr Bourke said the cottage has since been used by the music conservatory for music lessons and it will continue to serve that purpose after the restorations are complete.
