Skillset Senior College [SSC] has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Association of Independent Schools [AIS] NSW to assist in an upcoming study into the well-being of school students.

The grant, worth $130,000, will aid in a SSC study investigating different interventions on student mental health, with an aim to identify the most effective management strategies.
Head of research and development Dr Martin Hughes said the study will incorporate SSC students to form the basis of their investigation.
"We're looking to isolate the most effective strategies regarding student mental health using evidence-based science," Dr Hughes said.
The study will look at a variety of aspects, including student cortisol [stress hormone] samples, occupational therapy and resilience training.
Dr Hughes said it's vital for educators to help students maintain a positive well-being, and hopes the findings from the study will be adopted by schools across the public, independent and Catholic systems.
"The statistics around mental health problems are horrendous, and we hope this study will help alleviate the issue," he said.
The study will commence in January 2020 and run for two years.
