Carpenter, who's most recent W-Leauge club was Canberra United, will join Melbourne City this season on loan from her American club Portland Thorns.
Carpenter was at the competition's season launch at Bankwest Stadium on Thursday and was joined by representatives from all nine W-League clubs, including former Bathurst City Panthers players, now Western Sydney Wanderers midfielder Erica Halloway.
The new season starts on Thursday, November 14, when Halloway's Wanderers host Adelaide United at Marconi Stadium.
Halloway will be hoping for a better season from the Wanderers, who finished last in 2018-19.
However, the Wanderers will be bolstered by a host of signings in the off-season.
Cowra native Carpenter's first match of the new W-League season will be on Sunday, November 17, when Melbourne City clash with the Newcastle Jets at the No. 2 Sportsground.
Melbourne City had won the grand final in the club's opening three season (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18), however they be hoping to return to the play-offs after missing out in the 2018-19 season.
Defending champions Sydney FC will face Melbourne Victory and Canberra United will host Perth Glory in the other two opening round fixtures.
