The school had originally planned to send two boys teams and a girls team to Blacktown for the cup, however, due to clashes in the school timetable, it will only send one boys team.

Schools have qualified for the cup through regional carnivals, with Bathurst hosting one back in September at Proctor Park.

Bathurst was the only centre outside of Western Sydney to host a carnival, with the Nepean, Granville, Macarthur, Blacktown, Hills, Southern Districts, Gladesville and Bankstown districts all hosting carnivals.

St Philomena's teacher Jacob Parslow said the school is "soccer crazy".

"We're lucky to have this chance, because we're soccer crazy," he said.

"The opportunity came up to participate and we had to take it."

The school has a host of talented players, including Western NSW juniors Noah Maskill-Dowton and Kota Curry.

Curry believes his team will perform well against some top opposition.

"We'll go alright but the Sydney teams are very good," he said.

St Philomena's will play four games on Thursday against Mamre Anglican School (from Kemps Creek), Toongabbie Public School, Emu Heights Public School and Eastern Creek Public School.

Teams that top the group stage of the competition will progress to the semi-final and then the final, with the winner to be invited to play a mini-match at half-time during a Western Sydney Wanderers game later this season.

The rules are slightly different for the School Cup, with nine-on-nine, instead of the usual 11 per team.

Games will also be played on half a field.

All games will be played at the Blacktown Football Park at Bungarribee Park.

Parslow said the School Cup will be the last chance for many students to represent their school.

"This tournament means a lot for the students, especially for the year six boys who are finishing up this year," he said.

"They love their soccer and they'll love the chance to go out and represent their school.

"Big thanks to Trevor Simm too. He's a parent of one of the kids and he's great help and he'll be coming down on Thursday will us."

Parslow is also hoping that more schools from across Bathurst and the Central West region will support the competition as it continues to grow in the future.
