He previously made his senior debut for Bathurst in the secondary Rod Hartas Trophy, but his selection in the opens side is a first.
On Saturday gone, while filling in for Bathurst City's second grade side Rugby Union, Rice picked up a 10-for, with four wickets in the first innings and six wickets in the second innings.
It was his second ever 10-wicket haul in cricket and while he remembers that he last was against ORC, he can't remember the exact year.
Now his attention is firmly fixed on Sunday's match at Grinstead Oval and he's keen to make his mark in the Bathurst side.
"To be honest, it's my first game against Forbes and I reckon it'll be tough, good cricket," he said.
"I've grown in Bathurst my whole time, playing local cricket, so I don't have much of an idea about their cricketing ability over at Forbes.
"Playing with four of my club mates, that'll be great too. We know each other and our abilities and their plays, so it's pretty good to have a whole heap of Redbacks in there."
It's Rice's first call-up to a Bathurst representative side since his junior days.
"I played a little bit of under 21s, but that was quite a while ago," he said.
"I haven't played opens rep before, so it's pretty much my first time. It's pretty good to step up to the next level and have a crack."
Rice was picked in the side alongside teammates Mark Day, Ollie Simpson, Rory Daburger and Harrison Craig
The team will be captained by St Pat's Old Boys player Andrew Brown, who will be joined by his compatriots Matt Fearnley, Ben Cant and Hugh Parsons.
Rugby Union will be represented by Sam Macpherson, while Kurt Toole is the only Centennials Bulls called up to the squad.
City Colts is the only first grade Bathurst team not to be represented in the Bathurst side.
Sunday's match against Forbes will be a quarter final match, with the winner progressing to the semi-final on December 1.
In the other quarter final matches, Blue Mountains and Lithgow will clash at Leura, Cobar will host Narromine and Dubbo will travel to play Wellington.
The final will be held on December 15.
Sunday's game will get underway at 10am.
