I AM writing in regards to my disappointment over the Western Advocate photo of the White Ribbon event that featured three males with women only in the background.

As someone who is always aware of the high death toll of women being killed by male violence every year, I found your photo to be very insensitive and careless.
It really upset me and I wanted to point out that by placing women in the background rather than beside the men, it hammers home the message of the usual dominance power and control that men have while demonstrating that men are always needing to make it about themselves.
Stop silencing women's voices by treating them like an after-thought because we are the ones whose lives are being threatened and taken each and every day.
In saying that, the paper should have been more aware and perhaps attempted to empower women by placing them in the front of the photo, rather than the back, and the Advocate should be more mindful in the future.
It might also be important to point out that I have every right to feel and think the way I do and people have no right to disregard or minimise my views as I am sick of women being made to feel as though our perspectives are less important and or are too upsetting for males.
