Then, according to the 2019 Community Radio National Listener Survey, you are one of 674,000 people in non-metropolitan areas of NSW over the age of 15 who listen to community radio in an average week.
Or, to put it another way, 30 per cent of the population in non-metropolitan areas of NSW listen to community radio.
This is an increase from 28 per cent in 2018 which tells us we're doing something right.
The reasons people listen to community radio range from wanting to hear local voices and information, Australian music and specialist music.
Another important reason is that the announcers sound like 'ordinary people'. Across Australia, one in four people tune in to one of the 450+ community radio stations.
The National Listener Survey is conducted by McNair yellowsquares and tracks community radio listening habits throughout Australia.
A representative sample of 15,000 Australians over the age of 15 were reached through a hybrid of telephone and online surveys and results provide an invaluable insight into trends, listeners and the community broadcasting sector itself.
This is very encouraging for all of us here at 2MCE. It tells us that you are enjoying our programming, and we are fulfilling our obligations to you, the listeners, and our obligations under the Broadcasting Act.
If there is something you would like to hear more, or less of, on 2MCE, be sure to get in touch with us.
