The emergency service operators worked quickly to remove three LPG gas cylinders from the proximity of the flames, where they were left to cool away from the risk of explosion.
OFR Station Officer Dane Philippe said the fire took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish.
Mr Philippe said structural damage to the roof of the stadium prevented the firefighters from performing a thorough investigation of the fire's origins.
"Unfortunately there's an unstable roof structure where the fire went through," he said.
"We'll be handing over to police who will continue to investigation once engineers have had an opportunity to assess the building."
Waratah Sports Club would remain open for dinner service on Saturday evening, although the main car park would be closed.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance Orange also attended the scene on Saturday afternoon.
Nobody was injured during the emergency operation.
