The United Nations Voice tournament is a competition for students in year 7 to 10, who are required to solve issues that affect the community, nation and the world.
The year 9 student competed at the competition at the University of Technology Sydney on Friday, November 22, and was up against 29 students from across NSW, who were keen to qualify for the top 10 that would progress to the next round.
He had the option of six topics prior to attending the event, choosing to speak on the subject of improving economic equality between citizens.
"I had a five minute speech and the adjudicators asked me questions," he said.
"I had just one minute to prepare my answers and then I had two minutes to give my response.
"It was stressful because it can be difficult to come up with good responses to the answers that quickly. I just had enough time to jot down a few points."
It's not the first time Mr Henderson has experienced public speaking and said it's something he finds fun to do.
"It also gets me out of class," he laughed.
Mr Henderson qualified for the state round after progressing from the regional competition that was held at Bathurst High Campus previously.
The grand final for the United Nations Voice competition will be held on Monday, December 9, at Canberra.
