Mr Shearman, 20, runs his own business- JLS Mail Link- where he collects mail from the Bathurst Post Office to deliver to 14 businesses throughout the city.

Vannessa Shearman, Mr Shearman's mother, said he follows an organised, day-to-day routine to ensure he gets the most out of each day on the job.

"The businesses in Bathurst have really gotten on board with Josh's service and it has allowed him to build relationships with the wider community," Ms Shearman said.

"In addition, it creates awareness about providing an inclusive community atmosphere for people with a disability."

Mr Shearman was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder [later found to be Pettigrew syndrome] at the age of two, which affects his verbal communication and fine motor skills.

However, Ms Shearman said his disability has proven no barrier to becoming a well-respected individual in the community.

"Josh loves driving around in the company car and as the clients are scattered all over Bathurst, he gains exposure to a variety of different business sectors," she said.

"It's important for regional communities to provide opportunities for people with a disability, as they are capable of making a positive difference."

Adam Lawson, who assists Mr Shearman on his mail runs, said all the businesses welcome his dedication to ensure their mail is up to date.

"Every day is different, and I enjoy helping Josh run his daily errands," Mr Lawson said.

"These initiatives wouldn't be possible without a great deal of support from the community, and Bathurst is a big part of Josh's life."

Prior to starting JLS Mail Link, Mr Shearman attended Denison College Kelso High Campus, where he enjoyed regular classes and gained vital life skills to succeed after school.

"Josh's favourite subjects were Visual Arts and English, and he also completed work experience at two local businesses," Ms Shearman said.

"He went on all the school excursions, and received the same opportunities as any other student."

Mr Shearman graduated in 2017 and continues to volunteer at the two businesses he carried out work experience with: Kelso Truck Tyres and Mechanical and the Bathurst Regional Council depot.

"Josh is very much a people-person, and has made some valuable connections over the last few years," Ms Shearman said.

"While Josh is unable to speak, he's had a positive impact on so many people in the community."
