THE smoky haze which settled across the city on Sunday morning did nothing to deter crowds attending one of the city's long standing tradition, Carols by Candlelight.

Now in it's 41st year, the event is one of the community's favourite on the yearly calendar, with thousands turning up to Machattie Park every year to be part of it.
Well before the pre-show entertainment started, hundreds of residents had already claimed their spots in the park for the popular event.
The crowd only grew as time moved closer to the official start at 7pm.
"It's packed and we're so thrilled to have everyone here," Mitchell Conservatorium's executive director, Graham Sattler, said.
"It just gets bigger and better every year."
With the hazy conditions across the city, he said two giant screens erected in the park made it easier for those sitting on the fringe of the park to see the Bathurst RSL and Concert Band performing in the Rotunda, as the soloists and community sung along.
Mr Sattler thanked both Reliance Bank and Bathurst Regional Council, for their support in bringing Carols by Candelight to the community, and everyone who attended the night.
"Without Reliance Bank and council, the event wouldn't go ahead," he said.
